In current theater, new plays are few and far between. In order to foster a small, creative, and experimental atmosphere in the theater industry, the financial risk is immense. One way to mitigate this risk is to run multiple plays at once, allowing proven favorites to bolster sales and new experiments to be tested. But the difficulty comes with the staging and set design, as it is not worth the time and effort to tear down and rebuild the sets after each performance to make room for the next. So, the proposed renovation of Mixed Blood Theater includes a cylindrical stage and fly space creating a rotating stage, making room for three sets to be assembled simultaneously. This allows the theater to create the atmosphere of experimentation with new, small experiments, while maintaining room for fiscally stable productions as well.

The theater encourages interaction between the front of house and back of house by pushing all circulation through the lobby. The rehearsal spaces are above the lobby, and are free for the audience to explore. The audience can also take a path to fly space above the stages, allowing them to view all three stages. This increases the connection between the front of house and back of house.
